Works well on large lids. Will not work on smaller lids like a liter bottle of soda or a ketchup bottle; it doesn't grip a lid that small.

I don’t know when I have been so disappointed by a product I ordered. They fail to tell you that if the jar lid edge is smooth, instead of ridged, there is no hope of this working. There is nothing for it to grip on to to gain leverage. Many jars, usually the ones I need help with, are smooth edged.

I had bought one of these jar openers in a store in Houston in the 1980's. I still have it but wanted one for my sister. I was surprised to find one. It's the best.

Have loved this for years...
I originally bought one in the 1980's. Since that time I have purchased at least a dozen of them. I give them to friends and family members as gifts. My only suggestion is to mount them with the front facing forward not sideways. You get more traction on the item pushing into it not sideways as suggested by the diagram which accompanies the item. And yes you can use them for large jars and even tiny nailpolish bottles.
